Free Debt Relief : Remember the Opportunity Cost

Have you ever tried to figure out how much being debt costs you? I have. I would really like to know. Well, I’m not enough of a mathematician to run that number but I can simply look at the amount of interest I pay every month to know it’s lots. More than I want to pay. Then there are the other costs of being in debt. Like the opportunity costs.

For what I pay in interest every year could replace every television in my house with plasma. I could then I could then fly to Hawaii and spend a couple weeks on the beach. Fly back and put a hefty down payment on a new car. If I was so inclined I could save enough to pay cash for my son’s college education in 16 years and travel all over the world. Who’s up for Disney world? And how about the opportunity to retire early and spend more time with my loved ones?

Well because I’m in debt I can’t do all these things I’m stuck paying for a lot of stuff I purchased in the past. Some of it I don’t own anymore. That’s what I think about now when I make a purchase on credit , I think about what this purchase is going to cost me in the future.

What opportunities are you missing because of your debt?
